In the NWT, researchers are expected to understand the cultural, historical and regional context they are working in.

The NWT is regionally, historically and culturally diverse. Researchers should devote time to learning about the context of the region they would like to do research in. It is also important to learn about colonization impacts evident in the NWT, specific to regional, social, cultural, environmental and economic spheres.

Researchers are expected to understand how their research will relate to existing research priorities, and in particular, how their research is understood in relation to a community’s experiences with previous research.
