Working Together for Good Health: Research, Indigenous Knowledge, and Community-Driven Solutions in the NWT

Hotıì ts’eeda: NWT Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) SUPPORT Unit and Northern Public Affairs are pleased to invite authors to submit proposals for articles to be featured in a special issue of Northern Public Affairs on research, Indigenous knowledge, and community-driven health care in the NWT.

The special issue will explore issues surrounding health care, services and research in the Northwest Territories and highlight innovations and areas of growing momentum. The purpose of this special issue is to allow communities, researchers, Indigenous governments, and innovators to share ideas and highlight opportunities to build and grow the NWT health knowledge and research landscape.

Submission Guidelines

Abstracts no longer than 200 words are due on or before June 7, 2019. Full papers will be due August 23, 2019.

Abstracts will be accepted by email to
joshua.gladstone@northernpublicaffairs.ca. Abstracts may be submitted in any of the NWT’s official languages.

Themes

Each abstract must identify one of the following themes/questions that relate to health research in the NWT:

1. Building trust between Indigenous communities and the health system: How can the health system build trust and use Indigenous knowledge and methods?

2. Community-driven health research and programs: What examples of excellence and innovation are out there that show communities leading on their health priorities?

3. Looking to the future: What more must be done to build a health system that reflects and respects Indigenous knowledge, culture and ways of life?
